Bavette’s. One of our highly recommended steakhouses to take a date, Bavette’s sexy Prime Aged Steak menu extends to its non-meat items. That’s very important at this sensuous French eatery because you’ll need something substantial to soak up all those groovy cocktails.

Best Veggie Bites: Elote-style corn with chili, lime and parmesan or baked sweet potato with sweet butter and brown sugar

 

Capital Grille. We love the Streeterville location for its flawless business dining accommodations for lunch and dinner. It’s also a favorite for area residents and workers, who frequent the swanky front room lounge for oversized martinis.

Best Veggie Bites: Crisp French green beans with shallots and seasonal ingredients; hearty, roasted wild mushrooms; Au Gratin potatoes layered in various cheeses

Chicago Firehouse. The South Loop restaurant set in a former firehouse remains the only steakhouse in the neighborhood. One of its biggest assets is the “secret” rear garden—a well-manicured patio that feels more like your best friend’s country home. There’s also a fireplace inside. And just to add to the mix is Chef Dean Zanella.

Best Veggie Bites: Warm vegan “tian” made of faro, edamame and cucumber salad served over eggplant puree; house-made fettuccine with white wine, tomatoes and basil

 

Ditka’s. Da Coach’s Gold Coast hangout offers two different vibes: a sports-bar atmosphere with plenty of semi-private booths throughout the space as well as a formal dining room for those who wish to eat like grownups.

Best Veggie Bites: A flight of sides (choose any three for $9 such as smashed red skin potatoes; spinach and mushrooms; creamed corned; Burgundy mushrooms; jalapeno hash browns) or gourmet flatbreads in Margherita or vegetable (bell peppers, mushrooms, onions, tomato sauce, oregano, mozzarella)

Gene & Georgetti. The old-school Italian steakhouse attracts families, lovers and business types for its traditional menu and “Top Flight” service. If you’re looking for some of the strongest martinis and Manhattans in town, this is the place. Yes they they still offer FREE VALET PARKING a Free Side Salad and a their Famous Fried Potatoes.

Best Veggie Bites: A number of house-made pasta dishes, including eggplant parmigiana, angel hair pasta with red sauce and basil, or linguini with vegetables

Kinzie Chophouse. The classic River North steakhouse may not be on everyone’s hot list, but service is solid and consistent. Plus, if you cannot find something you like on the menu, they’ll try to whip it up in the kitchen. It’s directly across the street from the Merchandise Mart.

Best Veggie Bites: Wild mushroom & gorgonzola cheese tart with sun-dried tomatoes and onions; Portobello ravioli; wild mushroom and asparagus risotto

Mastro’s Steakhouse. If you’re into high-profile scenes, then Mastro’s is certainly where you should be. Also look for nightcrawlers, business types, socialites and celebrities stirring it up around the piano bar.

Michael Jordan Steak House. Another legendary sports star lends his name to a project that drives in plenty of traffic from fans, locals and Prime steak lovers. The bi-level restaurant offers an upscale sports lounge on the first floor and white-cloth dining room on the top.

Best Veggie Bites: Garlic bread smothered in Wisconsin Roth Kase blue cheese fondue; roasted mushrooms in blanched garlic and marsala jus.
