Who ever said you can’t teach an old dog new tricks? Not that Chicago’s most classic steakhouse is an old dog, but it just goes to show that even the most time-worn establishments can fly in the face of the vintage adage, proving even the old standbys are full of new surprises. Gene & Georgetti does just that with the addition of a new limited production exclusive wine to its list.
The vino exclusive comes via the Kendall-Jackson 2010 Jackson Estate Hawkeye Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon, the dreamiest of steak-friendly red wines, made all the more dreamy by the fact that it’s limited production and only available for a short time. In the family-own steak business for more than 70 years, Gene & Georgetti’s wine list is as well seasoned as its selection of steaks. Particularly, the restaurant has established a strong rapport with the Kendall-Jackson Winery, another family-owned entity, featuring an ample selection of their portfolio on their wine list.
As an esteemed steakhouse, Cabernet Sauvignon reigns supreme on the wine list, the perfect yin to G&G’s beefy yang. When the opportunity arose to offer guests an exclusive, new Cabernet to pair with their steak, bar manager Hugo Padilla went for it. Black cherry, cassis, and red currant notes enrich the 2010 Jackson Estate Hawkeye Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon, with palpable minerality that just begs to be adjoined with beef.
Get it while you can.
