World Gin Day, Dose Market, Breakfast Gin Release: Weekend Planner:
Celebrate World Gin Day
As you surely already know, World Gin Day is June 13, which of course merits drinking copious amounts of gin and tonics. If you’re looking to partake, you can’t do any better than Sable Kitchen & Bar, where head bartender John Stanton presides over a series of G&T’s. Inspired by Stanton’s trip to Madrid a couple years ago, Sable’s “Spanish Style Gin + Tonic” is an apt homage to one of Spain’s signature tipples. Served in traditional bowl-shaped wine glasses, the drinks contain different craft tonics and lustrous garnishes. Examples include one with North Shore #6 Gin, orange peel, Thai chilis, and Q tonic; another with Citadelle Gin, grapefruit peel, mint, and Mediterranean Fever Tree; and a particularly springy rendition made with Old Tom Gin, lime peel, strawberry, and Fever Tree Tonic. And there’s more where that came from, so get to drinking!
Dose Market
Chicago’s quintessential artisan market is back in action in a big way this weekend. On the heels of hugely successful HoliDose markets and mini markets this spring at Soho House and other locales around town, Dose Market gets back to its roots with a full-fledged event at Venue One on June 14. Just in time for summer shenanigans, Dose Market features more than 25 new vendors this go-round, and about 100 total. New emerging talents include Chicago artist Laura Letinsky and her ceramics and fabrics; Jeanette’s Cookies with her small-batch creations; Solid State’s Pilsen-made footwear; flour and baking mixes courtesy of Simple Mills’ eco-friendly and vegetable-tanned leather from Production Mode, and lots more. All this plus new product releases from Dose vets like Rare Bird Preserves, Argaman&Defiance, and others. Tickets to Dose Market, which runs from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m., are $8 online through 5:00 p.m. June 12, or $10 at the door. Children are free.
Breakfast Gin Release at Few Spirits
In other apt gin news, Few Spirits is releasing its latest gin creation this weekend with a debut party on June 12 at the Evanston distillery. New to the docket is a breakfast gin made with juniper, lemon peel, and Earl Grey tea, an ideal fixture for breakfast and brunch cocktails. It’s making its premiere at the next edition of Few Fridays this week from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. The gin will be served in breakfast-y cocktails, including the classic French 75. Food will be served courtesy of the Tamale Spaceship, and live music will play all evening long. The breakfast gin bottles retail for $39.99, available exclusively at the Few Spirits distillery.
